New Guide for Quality Pediatric Pain Management
Despite established evidence-based solutions to effectively prevent and manage pediatric pain, an incredible gap persists between what is known and what occurs in healthcare settings. Members of the OIFE Pain Project are excited to share the recent public launch of the new Practical Implementation Guide for Quality Pediatric Pain Management in Healthcare Settings explicitly designed to help bridge this gap. The guide is available in both English and French.
Katie Birnie and her research team alongside Solutions for Kids in Pain (SKIP) and The Center for Implementation developed this interactive online guide that was created to help healthcare teams and leaders turn evidence into action, offering step-by-step strategies and access to 350+ practical resources to support delivery of quality, equitable pediatric pain care within diverse hospital settings.
- This guide was co-designed using user-centered design principles to ensure it is practical, relevant, and responsive to the needs of those working to improve pediatric pain care.
- Development involved multiple rounds of in-person and virtual engagement, testing, and refinement from 2025-2026 with more than 60 diverse health professionals, decision makers, and patient and family partners across Canada.
- The guide was further informed by SKIP’s widespread engagement activities since 2020 with thousands of patients and caregivers, health professionals, and decision makers from 25+ hospitals and health authorities across Canada.
We encourage you to access the guide and share it widely throughout your networks so that more healthcare organizations can benefit from these tools and resources.

On top of the list is the film about pain and OI – that had its prelaunch at the topical meeting on pain and OI.
